Which is better: Firefox or Safari?

Which browser do you think is superior: Safari or Firefox? Do you prefer Firefox's extensibility and configurability or Safari's simplicity? Do you think that it's important that Firefox is a major cross-platform effort, bringing a consistent user experience to Mac and Windows (and Linux) users simultaneously? Share your opinions!

(Yes, I'll admit that Firefox is my preferred browser - not just because of its speed and incredible extensions, but because I think that it's important to support a true cross-platform browser that, if widely adopted, will ensure that Mac users have a chance of seeing pages precisely the way that Windows users do. But I want to know if these kinds of things are important to you as well.)

I'd have to give the nod to Safair for a number of reasons. Not the least of which is that it is a fully cross platform (capable), Open Source browser. I don't see a major benefit to FireFox in this area. Now for specific reasons.

1) Mac screen controls. Safari uses mac buttons, check boxes, pull down menus etc. Firefox does not.
2) Speed, I'm sure this varies from page to page but Safari seems faster over all in my tests.
3) Best auto complete I have ever used.
4) Snap back
5) Tab implementation. The close box on each tab is really nice in safari.
6) Non standard close window and select All command keys
7) I even really like the unified refresh/stop in Safair.

Maybe I'll do more later but I'm sleepy.

What kills Safari for me is it's inability to save complete web pages. Firefox offers the option of saves that retain all the graphics, tables and most important, working links.  I can't imagine what the Safari team thought they were doing when a link on a saved page only goes as far as the users hard drive.

Mind you, would appreciate Firefox including Safari's tab dismissal buttons, although I find I tend to use Cmd-W more often these days.

I've got opera, Firefox, IE and Safari on both G4's at my desk.  Aim is to keep a tab on how my websites look.  I have to admit that compared to firefox, Safari gives a far better reflection of the websites we create than firefox.  Once designed, we basically have to test them on both and safari always adheres to the html code we design, whereas we have to try and tweak for firefox.  (still haven't got the site quite right though).

IMHO if you have to 'tweek' HTML you are likely not writing to the standard to begin with or the browser that is having problems is in need of a serious dose of Raid.  I have yet to see any browser totally lose it on standard HTML (CSS is a different matter).

Neither. I far prefer the latest nightly Camino build, which outperforms both IME.

not new here but several years missing!  am back. and thought I'd add my 2 cents.

I've tried safari, firefox and camino and one other I can't even remember. While i like camino, I also am satisfied with safari and one thing that safari has that I don't think is available for any of the others are two neat apps that make my web bookmarks experience  more organized. 1) "bookdog" : quickly alphabetizes the order of all bookmarks and 2) " safari bookmark exporter": that's the one  that makes it so easy to use multiple web browsers and the one I missed when I began using camino as the primary browser. I never knew which browser has what  bookmark.

for that reason Safari has won out for me as the primary browser.

any others had this experience ?

Now a days there has been an upsurge in different tools which have 'hit' the Web and have been offered to the users world-wide for use free of charge.
These tools are starting to be used by more and more people world-wide on daily basis and the idea of 'simply-browsing' has become almost entirely obsolete. 'Simply browsing' today means inputting information into the Web almost as much as requesting the information from the Web.
FireFox  through its extensions offers users ability to improve every aspect of their browsing experience.
