MacBitchX is a port of the very highly-regarded BitchX IRC client for PCs and Unix boxes, which is itself a modification of the ubiquitous ircII client. While the PC and Unix versions support tcl scripting, the Classic Mac version currently does not. There is no information regarding what's new in version 1.1 for Mac OS X.
"I have used BitchX for Linux quite a bit, so I tried it for Mac OS. I was impressed. I have had no problems from it and the interface is an improvement over the Linux command line version IMHO. Very nice features and quite customizable. Overall: Very Nice."

"Without a doubt, THE best IRC client the Macintosh world has and will probably ever see. Ircle does not compare to the capabilities, the pure text, no nonsense, in your face, approach on the IRC community. I have long awaited a quality Mac IRC client; I think my prayers have been answered."

"MacBitchX Is the best IRC Application for the Mac, and always will be. It was a little harder (not much) to learn than, let's say, Ircle (3rd favorite), but a lot better than Snak (2nd favorite). If you want to use a quality IRC2 app, this would be the best if you are willing to take a little time to learn it (it has a loooooong commands list, but most you probably won't use unless you get ops; then it's really fun). It can do everything an IRC client and a GOOD bot can do, and it's very customizable with toggles and all. So if you want to try somthing new and good, or you have ops alot (O-lines anyone?), you'd love this one. I like it for its diverse possibilities and capabilities."

"I like MBX alot, seeing as when I'm working under other OS's I generaly use BitchX or epic. There are a few bugs that need to be fixed but seeing as it's still in beta stage that's understandable. What I'd like to see is the option of having an attached input bar to each channel window. Some people may like the one for any window but I personaly like an attached bar. Just an opinion though."

Also, if you have an older Mac, be sure to check out the "Classic" applications page for more options.
Finally, take a look at ALEMIA if you think you know that name of an application, but aren't quite sure.
These are applications that are newer and of potential interest, but which I haven't yet selected for permanent inclusion. Have a look, and let me know if you think they deserve to be part of the permanent collection!
