From the ChessWorks home page: ChessWorks is a multi-player chess game that is playable over the Internet or a LAN. ChessWorks is free and features its own built in tracker that helps you find people to play against. Version 3 is a complete rewrite from previous versions. It offers greater stability, more features, and more platforms. ChessWorks 3 can be played on Mac OS 8 - 9, Mac OS X, and Windows operating systems. Here is a short list of some of the new features in version 3.x:

  • Multiple games and trackers can be opened at anytime.
  • Full PGN compatibility.
  • Resizable board and piece graphics.
  • Game clocks are available.
  • Lots of customizing options.
  • SOCKS proxy support.
  • and much more...

Version 3.0.2 - the latest version for Power Macs and Mac OS X - adds/changes the following:

  • Improved support for playing behind a router. When inviting a player for a game the external ip address will be used when possible.
  • Fixed a typo in the preferences window.
  • The area behing the coordinates on Mac OS X is no longer a solid gray color.
  • User interface has been tweaked to look better on Mac OS X.
  • King can no longer castle if the rook has been captured before it moved.
